I love technology, yep love it. I have had instagram since the get go, way back when it was a simple photo filtering app..... way before it became a social network. It for the most part is my favourite app, I hang out on Instagram lots, like lots. A real lot, you get the jist?
So a couple of weeks ago we travelled up to Port Macquarie to the fabbo Tastings on Hastings for some fun, food and frivolity and we stumbled across this real life Insta-frame.....
it was insta-love for me. Yes, I must have one, I must!!
and wha-la here it is thanks to Mick at Mick's Sign Shop right here in Forster made me this most fabulous Insta-Frame, I say most fabulous because of course it is adorned with cocos_closet and complete with a couple of my fave hashtags.
Here's me in it. I'm totally wrapped with it, it's totes fabulous, so totes amazeballs fabulous I can't stop smiling at it.
Here's one of my mum in it, she loves Coco's lots, a frequent shopper and sometimes shop-sitter she's popped on in for a happy snap....
and guess what? You can too.... just pop on in and snap a shot in my happy place. It will make you smile, for sure.
If you want to follow me on Instagram you can pop over here I'd be chuffed if you do.
Above is a snippet of a few items that are currently available in my Society 6 store. Society 6 is a great platform for creatives to be able to showcase their art on products and in print.
Just over two weeks ago I along with around a thousand other creatives received the Round 1 Brief for the Lilla Rogers Global Talent Search. It's kinda the ducks guts of competitions... you win two years representation with Lilla Rogers along with an awesome array of fantastic things, a fabric line, homewares range, magazine interview....plus more, more, more.... it's all here. The brief was to design wall art with the theme of Little Terrariums, it could be suitable to any market. I began with pinning inspiration to a new board on Pinterest then dove in.
I thought I had a clear idea of what I wanted to do but as I kept drawing my vision grew and evolved and changed. I am a very big novice when it comes to digital art, I wish I could get my head around it and I think I have actually started chipping away.... it's extremely frustrating.... but I'm going to keep on keeping on with it.
Anyhow I am super lucky to be my own boss and can draw and draw and draw and paint as much as I wish, so draw and paint and draw with my stylus I did.... I ended up scanning my pictures and painted canvas background into the computer and gingerly played around with it digitally. I really like where I ended up with my girl, her cacti antlers, my cacti terrarium. I wasn't extremely happy with my font and have since tweaked it a bit.
The semi-finalists were revealed last night you can see them here. They are all sorts of wonderful and I had a lovely time last night, cup of tea in hand scrolling through them.
I am most excited though that mine along with all of the entries have been posted on Lilla's website including my girl, I am like so over the moon excited that my work, yep my girl is in the gallery along with 998 others. That was like a massive win for me anyway.
She Dares.... and dare I did, dared to challenge myself, dared to dream, dared to have a go, dared to step outside of my comfort zone. Glad I did, glad I extended myself and now I have like 1001 new ideas to get outta my head. Gosh, I'm glad about that.
I can't wait to see what the 50 finalists do in Round 2. I'll be along for the ride, hope you can join me.
oooooh in other exciting news for me I opened a Society 6 store today and popped She Dares it it, so you can buy her as a print, a stretched canvas, a framed print, a tote bag and a scatter cushion. Gosh I love them too, the tote looks fab and the cushion is super cute... they would make fab, totes fab (no pun intended) Christmas presents.
About a month ago I signed up for the Make it in Design Summer School. Travelling outside my comfort zone again. I'm signed up for the Beginners Track which will consist of three design briefs over the next six weeks. We recieved our first brief today....Tropical Paradise.
Yay, in the midst of Winter here I get to draw, design and think about a tropical paradise. I can already feel this is going to be fun and warm, visions of sunshine and palm trees and coconuts and pina coladas are dancing around in my head..... I'll be back soon.....
Continuing to step outside my comfort zone.....
